Your Questions About Studying in Germany, Answered
There are two key requirements for studying in Germany:
• University entrance qualification (Hochschulzugangsberechtigung) – your school-leaving certificates or higher education diplomas must be equivalent to German standards. If your documents do not fully meet these requirements, you can attend a preparatory college (Studienkolleg) to prepare for university studies and obtain the right to study at a German university after passing the final exam.
• Language proficiency – for German-taught programmes, you must prove a sufficient level of German (for example, with TestDaF, telc or DSH). For English-taught programmes, you need to provide an appropriate English language certificate.
There is no general limit in Germany on the number of applications you can submit. However, each university has its own requirements and deadlines. We help you coordinate all applications so that your chances of admission are as high as possible.
To enter a Studienkolleg, you usually need at least level B1 in German. For direct admission to a university, you generally need level C1.
If you don’t yet have the necessary level of German, you can come to Germany on a visa for study preparation (Studiumvorbereitungsvisum). This type of visa usually allows you to stay in the country for up to two years in order to attend language courses and prepare for your future university studies.
We support you throughout the entire admission process – from organising your language course to your enrollment at the university. With Admitted, you don’t have to worry about bureaucracy – we take care of all formalities for you.
If your school-leaving certificate is not equivalent to the German Abitur, you can complement your education at a Studienkolleg in Germany. The one-year Studienkolleg course prepares you both academically and linguistically for studying at a German university.
The duration of the process depends on many factors, but we recommend planning at least 4 months for preparing and submitting your documents.
You should keep the general deadlines in Germany in mind:
• for the winter semester – usually until 15 July,
• for the summer semester – usually until 15 January.
